Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you join.

FJH is for people connected to Cameroon who live in the Netherlands. Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often.

01

Eligibility

Who can become a member?

Membership is for people connected to Cameroon who reside in the Netherlands. This includes Cameroonians, Dutch nationals of Cameroonian origin, eligible spouses—including non-Cameroonian spouses—and children under 18 linked to a registered parent or guardian.

Can someone living outside the Netherlands join?

No. FJH is for people connected to Cameroon who live in the Netherlands. A connection to Cameroon alone is not enough; you must also reside in the Netherlands.

What if I move out of the Netherlands?

Tell FJH as soon as possible. Residence in the Netherlands is an eligibility condition, so the Management Board must review your membership under the association’s approved rules.

Does each family member need separate registration?

Yes. Every adult and child is registered separately. Children are linked to a registered parent or guardian.

What happens after I register?

Once registration and the applicable fee are processed, FJH issues a temporary registration number. This marks the start of your six-month qualifying period. During this period, your registration is provisional and full membership support is not yet available.

Why is there a six-month qualifying period?

FJH is built on people joining before an urgent need arises. Applying the same period to every new registrant protects fairness for existing members and helps keep the solidarity system dependable for everyone.

When do full membership benefits begin?

Full membership benefits begin six months after the date of registration and payment, provided all membership requirements are met. Register early so the qualifying period starts now—not when your family needs support.

02

Financial support

Does FJH replace death or funeral insurance?

No. FJH adds community support to any insurance or personal arrangements you may already have. It does not replace them. The money can help a family meet unexpected costs after a death.

What can the family do with the support?

The family or next of kin decides how to use the support and arrange the farewell. They may choose repatriation, burial or cremation in the Netherlands, or another lawful option. FJH does not make that decision.

Is the support amount guaranteed?

No. FJH is not an insurance provider and does not guarantee a fixed benefit. The current campaign target is €6,000 until it is reviewed or changed under the association’s rules.

How long does a campaign remain open?

A verified campaign—including any extension—remains open for no longer than two weeks. The official campaign notice states the exact payment deadline.

What happens if a campaign does not reach its target?

The Board may extend the payment deadline within the two-week maximum and send a further notice. If a shortfall remains, FJH may use available reserve funds, in accordance with its approved rules, to complete the support while recovering unpaid contributions. An unpaid campaign share remains a debt owed to the association and will be pursued under the Internal Regulations. This safeguard protects the family; it does not remove any member’s obligation.

Why does FJH need more members?

More members mean a smaller contribution for each person. Our goal is to grow until each member contributes less than €10 per campaign.

03

Costs and obligations

Is there a monthly contribution?

No. There is no monthly fee. Adults pay a one-time €25 registration fee. Registration for children under 18 is currently free. Members contribute only when a verified campaign opens.

What will membership cost in a year?

We cannot predict the annual total because we do not know how many campaigns will happen. For example, a €6,000 campaign shared by 350 members is about €17.14 each. Two similar campaigns would total about €34.28, excluding the one-time adult registration fee.

Can I choose which campaigns to support?

No. By joining FJH, you agree to contribute to every verified campaign. If members contribute only when they choose, the amount rises for everyone else and the model becomes weaker.

What does ‘in good standing’ mean?

You have completed the six-month qualifying period, your registration and applicable fee are in order, your details are current and you meet every campaign obligation. The Internal Regulations explain suspension and reinstatement.

04

Trust and privacy

Why should I trust FJH?

FJH is run by volunteers from our community who contribute their skills, time and goodwill. Our Story records the completed support cases, while our registered status, shared authority and financial controls provide further safeguards.

What information does FJH collect?

How is my personal information protected?
